JAVASCRIPT TILE GAME

The tile game is played on a 5 × 5 square grid. The purpose of the game is to join a point in the top row (A) to a point in the bottom row (B) with a continuous line. You do this by placing "tiles" in the squares on the grid. You have six tiles to choose from, as follows.

Tile 0 Tile 1 Tile 2 Tile 3 Tile 4 Tile 5

The points A and B are chosen at random by the computer. The computer also chooses the order in which the squares must be filled. The next square you have to fill is highlighted in red. After the square turns red, you have a short period of time (initially set to two seconds) in which to select the right tile for this square.

The six tiles are displayed on the game screen below the grid. You select a tile by clicking on it. If you do not click on one of the six tiles within the time limit, the computer will choose one at random.

You can use the control buttons on the right of the game screen to start a new game, to pause for thought, or to vary the time that each square remains red. You can stop and restart a game in the middle by clicking on the Pause and Resume buttons. You can adjust the time interval between half a second and five seconds by clicking on the Go Faster and Go Slower buttons (by half a second for each click).

The game is implemented entirely in JavaScript within the browser. The script has been written in JavaScript 1.1 and runs on Netscape Navigator 3 upwards and on Internet Explorer 4 upwards. It needs a screen resolution of 800 × 600 or higher. I have tested the game using Netscape Navigator 3 and 4 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 4 and 5. If the game doesn't work or looks strange in other environments, please let me know.
