Rana met Jon while he was record shopping in New York. When he spoke to her first she was so shocked that she ran from him and into the path of an oncoming car. Jono saved her. The reason Rana was so surprised was that she was deaf and Jono was speaking into her mind. He explained his telepathy to her and they spent the rest of the day together. Although they had a lot in common and cared about each other, Jono couldn't bring himself to drag her into his world. He discarded her address, thus eliminating any chance of them meeting in the future.
