Syros is the administrative capital of the Cyclades Islands. It has an area of 86sq.km,a coastline of 87km and a population of over 20,000. So unlike other Greek islands, Syros is not dependant on tourism and has a life of its own outside of tourism. Syros has a wonderful exciting history that is worth investigating.

It is easy to get to Syros. There is a daily flight from Athens on Olympic Airways as well numerous ferries to Athens and to and from other island. Syros is also one of the easiest island to get around with a good bus service to all the major towns as well as a plentiful supply of cheap taxis.

Syros has many attractions for the visitor. The capital Ermoupoli is a beautiful neo-classical 19th century town. Ano Syro - the old capital is a typical old Greek village with small streets and white-washed houses. It has marvellous views over the island.
