St. Colmcille's is a 12 teacher school situated about 3 miles north of Sligo town on the main Bundoran road situated in a very picturesque setting in the heart of the Yeat's Country under Bare Benbulben's head..  There are ten classes in the school.

Before Christmas a number of classes took part in the Readathon.  Fifth Class alone raised £320.00. The whole school raised a £1,336.00.  Our thanks to all the people who sponsored the children for the number of books read for this very worthy cause.

The Christmas Play

Every year 6th class put on a Christmas play, which everyone loves. This year it was our turn to perform a play. The play was called "Papa Panov" with Daniel cast as "Papa Panov". There were 55 people involved in it because 3rd class joined us by playing the scruffy urchins with three great solo parts from Sara, Niamh and Tracy. This year's Christmas play was a big hit. We spent about a month preparing for it, painting the stage, learning our lines and making props and lots of rehearsing. We performed the play for every class in the school and last Friday night we performed it for our parents. NERVE WRACKING! Scene 1 took place in the Czar’s palace with the rich, while scene 2 took place outside with the poor. Last scene, scene 3 took place in Papa Panov’s shoe shop with Papa Panov and his cat. The concert raised around £530 so we can buy a television and VCR. We raised this amount of money because 400 people generously came to see us perform. We also had a raffle and many people won very good prizes. Mr. Conlon and Mrs. O’ Boyle were an essential part in organising the play because without their help there would have been no play! Being part of this year’s Christmas show with all our classmates is something we will never forget!

The video is priced at £12 and will be available in the New Year.

The children made their caps from  papier maché, painted and decorated them and varnished them with PVA glue. Here they are at the crib proudly wearing their hats.  They also painted the glass jars with acrylic paints.  What a wonderful job they made of the caps.
