The Rolfing Series

In a carefully developed sequence of 10 sessions the Rolfer systematically re-organizes the body's tissues. Each session has a specific focus and builds on the result of the previous one, so that the results are cumulative.

A Rolfer regards a person's body as an integrated whole. For example, the places we are aware of as painful or tense are only part of a whole complex. Working to release only isolated, painful areas is rarely enough. Lasting relief can only happen when the whole body is balanced.

Rolfing practicioners are trained to see a body's structural organisation. They see where tension and muscular strain lies as well as the body's compensatory strategies.

After evaluating the client's structure, the client lies on a cushioned table while the Rolfer sensitively applies deep pressure to lengthen and re-position the tissue.

The client is asked to breathe into the area being worked and to make some synchronized movements to release internal holding patterns.

Throughout the process, the person is educated about his or her habitual movement and holding patterns and encouraged to experience new ways to move.
