County Museum

Roscommon Town has a wonderful building in the market square given over to the County Museum.  The facility is a great asset to the town, housing many important artifacts and displaying all kinds of information. Sadly, due to lack of funding the museum is only open for some months of the year.  We are working closely with the Heritage Officer, FAS and other bodies to have the museum open all year round.

Save the Lion's Gate!

The Lion's Gate once formed part a grand gateway to the Crofton Estate at Mote Park just outside Roscommon. The stonework of this fine example of Georgian design is in a bad state of repair and the heritage group have been given estimate in excess of EUR60,000 to repair.  We are currently liaising with government bodies and other groups to raise funds and any support would be greatly appreciated.

Derrydonnell Bridge

The Derrydonnell Bridge in Mote Park, adjacent to Roscommon Town, is under threat from heavy traffic.  The heritage group and the Mote Park Amenity and Conservation Group are petitioning the County Council to have a weight restriction applied to the bridge.  There are alternative routes available but proper sign posting is required urgently.  Please help by contacting Roscommon County Council to protect this bridge from further unnecessary damage.
