Many pupils in the school entered a Poetry Competition organised by The Gerard Manley Hopkins Summer School.

The following 2 poems received awards of merit:

(1).My Pony       By Ailish

My pony is a frisky boy

I like the twinkle in his eye

He swishes me with his long tail

He's 13.2hands high

But in my hands he's just a boy

His shiny grey coat glitters in the sun

And we are partners one in one

He cocks his tail and all is done.

I like chips

I like the way the vinegar runs down my lip

Lovely salt

It makes everything in my life come to a halt

I like the sauce

Its so red like the hair on my brother's head

My mother hates me eating them

So she goes..nag..nag..nag. Top of Page

Pentecost      By Anne Marie.

The apostles were lost,   and they huddled in fear

Jesus was gone, but yet, he was near.

Then all of the sudden, in blew a gust

It rose tables and saucers, ashes and dust.

Great tongues of fire appeared from the sky

The Holy Spirit had come from Heaven on high.

The twelve spoke different tongues, to tell God's story

To spread the word and speak of his glory.

My Grandad

I came home from school to realise he's gone

Gone from my life but not from my heart

His bed is cold,

All I want to know is :

Will his bed be warm again and

Will his coat be hanging by morning?

Ode to the Kildare Football Team

To Ronan:    on occasion of his visit to our school.

You're our hero,  you're our man

You have the Leinster, but not the Sam

But we don't worry, we don't care

You play football with Kildare.

To Christy: on occasion of his visit to our school

Christy is our goalie, he stands before the net

Such a performance, we'll never forget

We cheer him today as he comes to our school

The Lilies are great the Lilies rule.

St.Patrick's Day

There was a boy Patrick, he was out playing one day,

Along came pirates and took him away.

He landed in Ireland upon a Hilltop

By night and by day he minded his flock.

Over the years he started to pray

He vanished the snakes, and showed the people the way.

From Tara to Slane he lit the flame

And that is why St.Patrick is the Patron Saint today.

Cat kisses

     Sandpaper kisses

On a cheek or a chin

That is the way for the day to begin.

Sandpaper kisses

A cuddle a purr

I've an alarm clock that's covered with fur.

      Help Your Neighbour

Help your neighbour whenever they're sad.

Help your neighbour when they're glad.

Help your neighbour every day

To make a better person in a different way.

Put your feet in their space

Make a better place

For me and my neighbour

Snowflakes

It was Christmas Eve, oh what a sight

Snow was falling.

I walked up the hills

I walked down the road

The snow is still everywhere I go.

I walked outside

With such a fright

A blanket of snow everywhere in sight

I went back inside

Soon afterwards magical feathers

           Still in my sight.

The Day

A black cloak covers the land

But leaves the stars to shine

The moon's dim glow

Lets us know

The night has just dropped by.

*********

The cloak swiftly descends

And leaves the world to dry

The sun's warm rays

Seem to say

The morning has arrived.

*********

When the morning dies down

And night draws near

A quiet battle is fought

It fills the sky with a rainbow variety;

Pinks, purples, reds, blues and yellows

Light up the sky.

At this time of day, the birds all sing

Its evening.
