10-Feb-2002:
A mockup of the new IPI website was launched on an experimental basis
on a Council members site. The new site can be viewed at http://homepages.eircom.net/~ssconnolly.html
If it proves popular it will be moved to the IPI's top level domain name
and hosted on a commercial server.
8-Feb-2002:
The Council of the IPI travelled to Cork City to hold its Monthly
meeting within the Second City.
The Main issues discussed were:
- Unpaid Subscriptions - a substantial nember of members are in
substantial arrears. After repeated warnings they have failed to
pay. After one final warning they will be struck off.
- Further details of the conferences were decided. A number of
Planning Consultants have enquired if they can provide exhibitions.
It was to decided to limit such exhibitions to Planning Consultants
and Listed Bodies. Ciaran Tracey will look into the the financial
aspects and report back
- The PWIP proposal to hold the European Bienniel Meeting in Cork
City to co-incide with the award of the European City of Culture has
been dropped in view of the substantial preparatory carried out by
the RTPI.
- Brendan Allen will attend to the Annual Awards
- It is intended to organise a Rural Forum, possibly on extractive
industries in the South East sometime in the Summer - more details
later.
- There are still a number of loose ends to be tied up with the
Hutchinson Report on the Future of the Planning Profession - it is
hoped to publish it in the near future.
- The Council held a working lunch in the Kingsley Hotel with the
members of the Cork Branch of the IPI where matters of mutual
interest were discussed.
- After the main Council meeting a 'Roadshow' to meet and greet the
general membership of the Cork area was. Cork county Council was
strongly represented and the main issues raised were the need for a
higher profile for the IPI, special insurance deals like those
organised by other institutes, windfarms and the need for courses on
how to handle the public. The President John Spain indicated that
they had hired a Public Relations firm and they had succeeded in
raising the profile of the Institute. He also referred to the
substantial referral from government bodies, the ongoing requests
for consutlations by organisations involved with development and th
eenvironment and the increasing number of bodies which were
requesting input from the Institute. There was an undertaking given
that the matters raised would be considered at the March meeting.
- Afterwards the President John Spain attended the officail opening
of the new Civic Offices which houses the Planning Department on
Navigation Quay.
