Proposed Education Cut-Backs

Dear Parent(s) / Guardian(s),

The impact of the proposed education cut-backs on our school will be as follows:

  • At present, there are 18 mainstream class teachers in our school. In September 2009, there will be 17 mainstream class teachers
  • At present, there are 4 language support teachers in our school. In September 2009, there will be 2 language support teachers
  • From January 2009, substitute cover will not be allowed for teachers who are absent without a medical certificate. This will result in children being re-allocated to other teachers if there is a short-term absence of a teacher.
  • The small amount of money which was granted to assist with the purchase of school books will not be paid in 2009.

The overall effect of these proposed cut-backs will have a very serious impact on the quality of the education which your son will receive from September 2009 unless the decisions are reversed.

We ask that you contact TDs or County Councillors to express your opinion with regards to the effects of the cutbacks and /or gather outside the DAIL on next WEDNESDAY, 29th OCTOBER at 6.30pm to show the government you want these cuts reversed.
