CúchulainnCulann was a blacksmith who made swords and spears for Conor. Conor was invited to a party at Culann’s fort. Setanta said that he was not ready to go and that he would follow them. Conor and his men had a great time at the feast. They ate meat, honey and fruit. They drank jugs of ale. Culann set his fierce hound free to guard the fort while they were having the party. The HoundSetanta set out for the feast. He had his hurley and ball with him. The hound attacked him. Setanta hit the ball into the hound’s throat. The hound died. Conor was still at the party. He remembered Setanta and ran out. They saw the dead dog and Setanta beside him. Setanta Gets a New NameCulann was sad. He had no dog to guard his fort. Setanta said he would guard the fort. He was now called Cú Chulainn – the hound of Culann.
