Fionn as Leader

Fionn.jpgFionn went to see the High King at Tara. He said to the High King, “I want to join the Fianna.” “You are welcome to join,” said the High King. Goll wanted to harm Fionn, but no fighting was allowed in the High King’s house.

The Goblin

A goblin is a wicket spirit. He used to come to Tara each year and do evil things. No one could stop him because he played music which put them to sleep. “Who will save Tara from this goblin?” asked Cormac, the High King. “I will,” said Fionn. “If you kill the goblin, you will be made leader of the Fianna,” said Cormac.

Fionn and the Goblin

Fionn was given a spear to help him. “Put it against your head when you hear the music,” said Fiacca, a friend of Fionn’s father. Fionn took the spear. He heard the music and he put the spear to his forehead. He was free of the spell and he put the spear through the goblin’s heart.

Fionn Becomes Leader

Fionn went back to Tara. The High King, Cormac, asked Goll would he be friends with Fionn and take him as leader of the Fianna. Goll and Fionn shook hands. Fionn was now leader of the Fianna.

The Fianna

It was very hard to join the Fianna. A person had to be able to run through a wood without breaking a twig. A person had to be able to jump a branch as high as himself. A person had to be able to fight 9 people while standing in a hole in the ground.

Famous People in the Fianna

Oisín, who was the son of Fionn, was a poet. Oscar was a great fighter. Cónán was famous because of his curses. Fionn led the Fianna all over Ireland. They hunted all over the country.
