Black Bridges

Black Bridges.jpgThe Blackbridge is down the road from Lawless Memorial Park. Originally, there was only one bridge, but in the early 1900s, two bridges were built and the course of the river was diverted into two channels. Looking left can be seen the causeway (the Nine Arches) which was built to carry the main Dublin to Belfast road over the river courses of the Ward and the Broadmeadow which meet here before they enter the sea. According to local tradition, the last great battle of the world between the forces of religion and the Anti-Christ will be fought at the Nine Arches.
