This
trail starts on North Street at the Carnegie Library. Andrew Carnegie
{1835-1919}
was born in Scotland and went to the U.S. and became a steel industrialist.
Carnegie built libraries in America, England, Ireland and other English Speaking
countries. It was finished in 1907 and opened to the public in 1908. The
redbrick building has 17 windows on the front and is surrounded by iron
railings. The original committee included Mr. Cobbe of Newbridge House, Mr.
Nicholas Long of Milton House, the Chairman was Col. Forster of Swords House and
the secretary was Mr. A.J. Hamill the Principal of New Borough Senior Boys’
School.
