Lambay.jpg [Picture Taken from Paddy's Hill, Portmarnock]The island got its name from the custom of bringing sheep over there in the lambing season because the air is mild and warm. The climate was also good for people who were recovering from illnesses and Archbishop Usher lived there while he was being treated for an illness. Lambay is a bird sanctuary, and it is supposed to be the only place in Ireland where there are black rats. It has been said that the island is the remains of an extinct volcano, and for this reason, it has many different kinds of rocks on it.
