Parent Teacher Meetings

Thanks very much to everyone who attended the recent parent teacher meetings. This level of interest is an indication of the tremendous co-operation and goodwill which exist in our school.

Swimming

Swimming is an integral component of the Primary School Curriculum. It is hoped to offer swimming classes to pupils in 3rd, 4th and 5th Classes towards the end of the Second Term and during the Third Term. More specific details with regard to times, dates and prices will be sent out as soon as they are available.

Homework Journals and Advertising

For some years, a homework journal has been in use which was produced commercially with the help of sponsorship from local businesses. The money from this sponsorship went directly to the publishing firm. It has been decided that we will produce our own homework journal for the new school year, but to make it possible to provide it at a reasonable price for the pupils, it will be necessary to obtain some sponsorship. The price of a one page advertisement will be €150; ½ page will be €75 and ¼ page will be €40. It is hoped to have a print run which will provide journals for the next two years. Parents interested in sponsoring the homework journal are asked to submit details to the school secretary (Phone: 8405132) or email – colmcilles@eircom.net.

Gaelic Football

Coaching re-commenced after Christmas, and Fingallians have provided us with the services of Vinny Galvin in addition to Emer Bambrick. All classes from Senior Infants to 6th are new receiving coaching. We are entering two teams in the Fingal League, and Mr Jimmy Byrne (Organiser of Sporting Activities) would be very interested in hearing from parents who might be in a position to assist with transport.

Junior Infant Enrolments

Applications for places in the school in September 2003 are being processed at present. If there are other parents who wish to register their sons for our school, they are asked to contact the school immediately.

Post Primary Transfer

Most of the boys in 6th Class have completed the assessment tests for transfer to post primary schools in September 2003. Coláiste Choilm uses a waiting list policy for its prospective pupils so it is essential that parents put their sons’ names down as soon as possible. Fingal Community College and St Finian’s send forms to the school at the start of the year in which a pupil is transferring. Post primary schools which are outside the Swords area should be contacted by parents.
