The closing date for applications for enrolment in our school was Friday, 1 February. Places will be allocated immediately after the mid-term break. The demand for places has been greater than the number of places available so there will be a waiting list.

Green Schools Programme

The theme for fourth Green Flag is travel. In a bid to achieve this, we are launching our WOW and COW day on Wednesday 20th February 2012 (walk on Wednesday/cycle on Wednesday). If walking or cycling is not viable, then, public transport, park ‘n’ stride and car-pooling are also sustainable modes of travel. Our Green Schools Committee would like to encourage as many families as possible in our school community, to put on their walking boots every Wednesday and embrace this campaign. The class with the most walkers/cyclists will be presented with the Golden Boot Award.

Always be safe. Remember to wear suitable clothing on the day and a helmet if cycling. Please check out our walking and cycling safety tips on our school website, www.colmcilles.net. Hi- visibility vests are available from the Road Safety Authority and Fingal County Council. Keep an eye out on our school website for photos of our WOW and COW champion walkers and cyclists!

Local History Project

In view of the number of very important anniversaries which will be celebrated during the next few years, it has been decided to organise a number of history projects relating to local, national and international events. If a parent wishes to participate or assist in any way, contact Mrs Mary Mc Gee, our school secretary, at 01 8405132. In this regard, photographs of past pupils/ old photographs of Swords etc. would be much appreciated. They will be copied and returned immediately.

Post-primary transfer

Well done to the pupils who completed their post-primary assessments last week. We continue to remind parents that Coláiste Choilm operates a waiting list system so it is important to register your son if he wishes to attend that school. Fingal and St Finian’s Community Colleges take applications on the year in which the pupils are in 6th Class.
