Sponsored Jog

The jog was held on Friday, 26 September 2008. We thank the pupils and families who contributed the sum of €11,015. This represents a 12% decrease on last year’s amount, but this may be a reflection of much harsher economic times for all members of our school community.  The sum of €2,000 was presented to the school by the Parents’ Association at the end of the last school year, and this very generous contribution to school funds is acknowledged with thanks. (Reference to this donation was omitted in error from the Jog Account which was issued during September 2008).

Education Cut-Backs

Now that the Dáil has voted in favour on the cut-backs in the Education budget, it is important to reiterate the impact which the cut-backs will have in our school and request that parents continue to lobby public representatives so that the cut-backs may be reversed / amended:

  • There will be 1 less mainstream class teacher in our school from September 2009

  • There will be 2 less Language Support teachers in our school from September 2009

  • There will be no substitute cover from 1 January 2009 for teachers who are absent without a medical certificate. This will result in pupils being allocated to other classes / teachers

  • There will be no Book Grant in September 2009

Transfer to Post-Primary Schools

Most of the pupils in our 6th Classes have now obtained places in post-primary schools for the school year, 2009-10. With regard to St Finian’s and Fingal Community Colleges, application should be made when the pupils are in 6th Class. Coláiste Choilm uses a booking system so it is important for parents to make application for their sons as soon as possible, irrespective of the class in which the boys are at present.

  • To Fingallians GAA for providing personnel to coach the boys

  • We are very grateful to the parents who assist at the supervision of the pupils while they are at swimming classes
