Arrivals and DeparturesWe welcome the pupils who have commenced in St Colmcille’s BNS, and we look forward to working with them and their parents. We welcome Ms Adrienne Moore to the staff of St Colmcille’s BNS. We thank Ms Lorraine Gaffney and Ms Carmel Scanlon for their service in our school. We welcome back Ms Kildea and Ms Cottell, and wish Ms Sweetman well on her career break. The jog was held on Friday, 26 September 2008. We thank the pupils and families who contributed the sum of €11,015. This represents a 12% decrease on last year’s amount, but this may be a reflection of much harsher economic times for all members of our school community. The sum of €2,000 was presented to the school by the Parents’ Association at the end of the last school year, and this very generous contribution to school funds is acknowledged with thanks. (Reference to this donation was omitted in error from the Jog Account which was issued during September 2008). Now that the Dáil has voted in favour on the cut-backs in the Education budget, it is important to reiterate the impact which the cut-backs will have in our school and request that parents continue to lobby public representatives so that the cut-backs may be reversed / amended:
Transfer to Post-Primary Schools Most of the pupils in our 6th Classes have now obtained places in post-primary schools for the school year, 2009-10. With regard to St Finian’s and Fingal Community Colleges, application should be made when the pupils are in 6th Class. Coláiste Choilm uses a booking system so it is important for parents to make application for their sons as soon as possible, irrespective of the class in which the boys are at present.
Our insurers have asked that attention be drawn to the importance of preventing unauthorised access to the school grounds by people driving children to school. There is no permission for parents / guardians to drive cars into the school grounds. The school team is playing in the Cumann na mBunscoil Gaelic Football League for the first time in a number of years. We congratulate the players and management team on winning all of their matches so far, and wish them well as they seek to bring a trophy back to the school. Dates of Parent / Teacher Meetings
We thank all members of the school community for their support and co-operation and wish them well as we endeavour to do our very best for the pupils entrusted to our care. Ní neart go cur le chéile.
