Arrivals and Departures

We welcome the pupils who have commenced in St Colmcille’s BNS, and we look forward to working with them and their parents. We welcome Ms Ciara Gallagher to the staff of St Colmcille’s BNS. We thank Ms Laura Kavanagh and Ms Adrienne Moore for their service in our school and wish them well in their new schools. We send our good wishes to Mrs Violet Hunter as she continues her recovery and welcome Mrs Marguerite Mooney, her replacement. We wish Ms Bernadette Sweetman well as she continues her career break.

Sponsored Jog

The jog will be held on Friday, 25 September 2009. We are deeply aware of the much harsher economic times which are impacting on all members of our school community, but we ask that you contribute as generously as possible to the major fund-raising initiative of this school year. Money from the sponsored jog enables us to provide a level of service which would be impossible without these additional funds. We acknowledge with gratitude the sum of €1,620 which was presented by the Parents’ Association as a result of the sponsored walk in May 2009.

Education Cut-Backs

The impact of the education cut-backs is now evident in our school.

  • There is 1 less mainstream class teacher
  • There is 1 less language support teacher
  • The Book Grant scheme has been abolished

In addition to the above cut-backs, the infant enrolment is considerably lower this year, and this will more than likely result in the lost of a further mainstream post in 2010-2011.

Transfer to Post-Primary Schools

With regard to St Finian’s and Fingal Community Colleges, application forms have been given to the pupils in 6th Class and should be returned to the particular schools as soon as possible. Colaiste Choilm uses a booking system so it is important for parents to make application for their sons as soon as possible, irrespective of the class in which the boys are at present.
