Junior Division 2 Play Off - 3 May 2007
St Colmcille’s BNS Swords 4 -5 Holy Family Rivervalley 2-9Both schools were on level points in their division and needed to play off to see who they would meet in their semi finals. They had played each other twice already and had won one game each so this match was going to be very eagerly contested.St Colmcille’s were first to score with a fine point from Brian Walzer. Rivervalley replied with a point. Then Caolán Kennedy from St Colmcille’s rescued the ball out on the sideline and made a darting run towards goal beating three defenders and rifling the ball into the top corner of the net. Rivervalley came back again with another two points while St Colmcille’s shooting began to let them down and shot several wides. Into the second half Rivervalley seemed to be taking charge of the game and had gone three points clear. St Colmcille’s made some changes in personnel, with Michael Campararu coming into the defence and moving Paul Murphy into the attack. Paul didn’t take long to get down to business, he lost his marker and went through to score a cracker of a goal to bring the sides level again. Rivervalley replied with a goal of their own. Sean Brock scored a point for St Colmcille’s. Then Rivervalley scored another point. Then, Rivervalley scored a goal and Ciarán Murtagh from St Colmcille’s replied with a goal. The sides were level Holy Family 2 -6 St Colmcille’s 3-3 at full time. Extra time had to be played to separate the teams.Holy Family started best, they got two excellent points in the first half of extra time, holding St Colmcille’s scoreless. On a hot day, both teams had to dig very deep for the second half of extra time. Holy Family continued where they left off, scoring another fine point. Then, young Paul Murphy won the ball and sent it into the net to put the St Colmcille’s boys level. Garreth Craven found his shooting boots and put over and great point which put the St Colmcille’s boys ahead by a point and midfielder, Jake Hyland then added another point to put two between the sides. After an epic match, St Colmcille’s came away the winners on the day. (4-5 2-9). However, both schools are deservedly in the semi finals. St Colmcille’s will play Mountview and Holy Family will play Our Lady of Victories and who knows, these two great teams might meet again in the Fingal League Final in Parnell
Park!
