A Little bit of Background

Inishbiggle Island, Co. Mayo, is hoping to establish a cable-car link in a bid to solve their transport problems for the 90 islanders. It is estimated that this would cost in the region of  200,000. There is a dangerous 90m channel dividing them from the mainland between Innishbiggle and Bullsmouth on Achill. In bad weather the island is completely isolated.

It is urgently in need of proper contact with the mainland by the erection of a cable-car service. This was the result of a £4,000 survey commissioned by Udaras na Gaeltachta.

The break-down in population is: Age 1-14, 21; age 14 -40, 21; 40- 60 years, 26; 60 & over 22.
