This is Adam's story, and mine. It is a very sad one. It starts on the 26th of September 2000. I had had a healthy and very happy pregnancy, and our new baby was due in only ten days. I was getting mild contractions all day and myself and my husband and Adam's older brother Matthew were all very excited at the prospect of an imminent arrival. I went to bed that night feeling nervous and restless and content. |

At about 6:30 am I felt a huge contraction which woke me up from my broken sleep. I stayed awake for a while to see if any more would come, but nothing happened. All the pain had disappeared. I knew this sometimes happens in pre-labour. After a short time tossing and turning I fell asleep again. When I woke the next morning I felt tremendous pressure but no more pains. I felt disapointed. | ||
When we got back from our school run I decided to have a rest. Just as I got into bed my waters broke with a tremendous gush. I got such a shock! The pressure had eased but there were still no contractions. I remember noticing that the waters were tinged with blood, but this is also normal so I didn't worry too much. I rang my mother and my midwife, Kate, and two of my friends, shaking with excitement all the while. My precious baby was finally coming... |
