National Venturer Forum 2001

Renmore Scout Co. Galway  ~ 26th-29th October

This years National Venturer Forum is going to be held in Renmore Scout Hall in Co. Galway. There might also be a few surprise activities! What to bring -Full Uniform -Your admittance card if you have a vote. · Swimming gear for the weekend activities. · A musical instrument for the ceol on the Fri night. I doesn’t matter if you can’t play it or not! If you don’t have one….make one!!! · Dancing gear for the Sat night!! The stranger the better!!

The weekend will start on the Friday night when we have sign-in and ice-breakers. The names of the ventures who want to run for the National Venturer Forum Election, to be held on the Sunday, will also be announced.  Saturday morning and we will split into groups for the days activities, in and around Lahinch. That evening there will be a fancy dress disco and games.

On Sunday the serious business of the weekend will commence. The Venturer Forum Committee will start the meeting, and the forum will discuss and vote on the different motions brought forward. All groups and regions now have the opportunity to submit motions to the forum. It is here that Ventures from all over the country can have a say and input into the future of Ventures and the Association as a whole.  The motions you submit should come from your Regional Venturer Forum or your group’s AGM.

Half-way through the forum there will be a break and then the candidates for the election get an opportunity to win over the votes of their region. Then each region will vote to see who represents them on the National Venturer Forum Committee next year.

At the end of the forum the winners of the election will be announced and presented with their neckerchiefs.                                                                                            Podge & Derek

What is the National

Venturer Forum Committee?

Each year two ventures are voted onto the National Venturer Forum Committee (NVFC) from the six areas; Dublin Metropolitan, Leinster North, Leinster South, Connaught, Ulster and Munster. They join the one remaining member from the previous year who stays on for purposes of continuity.

The members of this years forum committee are:

Colum O’Connor, William Blake, Sinead Boylan, Kevin Kenneally, Stephen Casey, Brian Twohig, Derek Byrne, Alan Maxwell, Orla Garrigan, Andrew Johnston, Claire Guilfoyle, Karyn O’Brien, Podge O’Rourke, Cathal McMahon & James O’Shaughnessy.

These members have the position of being the national representative of the Venturers in Ireland. Part of the committee’s job spec is to bring the motions passed to National Council. Also, to seek solutions and appropriately direct the motions that do not concern National Council.

They also take an active part in organising and running the various national activities throughout the year.

The venturer forum committee meet for numerous weekends throughout the year to discuss  upcoming events. In previous years members of the Forum Committee have ended up in places such as Paris and Prague carrying out work for the forum.

If you feel like you are suited to the NVFC and are willing to put time and a bit of effort into helping venturers throughout the country why don’t you run for election. If you get voted on to the committee you will represent venturers on a national level and get to wear the coveted NVFC necko!

All you have to do is send in the application form along with a passport size picture of yourself to HQ. It is recommended that each region send forward a representative from their regional forum.

The National Forum is an opportunity to voice your opinions on any issue that concerns you whether they relate to scouting or not! Do not lose this opportunity! The national venturer forum weekend is open to all venturers.

If you raise your voice together, it will travel further!
