Frequently asked Questions about

Pitch and Putt

Q.Just what is Pitch and Putt? Or as it is often called, "Short Golf" or "Par 3 Golf.

A. Although it, is an offshoot, it is a game that can very much stand on its own merits.  It is played on a 18 hole course, a player can only use two clubs to play the game, one of which is a putter.  The maximum distance from tee box to green is 70 meters and it can't exceed this.  So all 18 holes added together can't exceed over 1,000 meters.  While these are the basic rules they are, of course, other rules govering the game and these are available in a booklet form.

Q. Where and when did it begin?

A. Pitch and Putt was first played in Ireland in the mid to late 1930's.  Cork and Dublin were the areas to show real interest but the game grew in strenght and popularity and in 1961 various representatives came together and formed the Pitch and Putt Union of Ireland.  These are registered clubs in 20 counties and the game is administered through a club/provincial council/central council system ensures democratic functioning of the game.
