Are you a long-term member of Wee
Binnians? If
so, have you renewed your membership for April 2011 to March 2012? The committee are aware that a small number
of long-term members have not renewed their membership. This is most probably an oversight and I
urge you to renew ASAP. Also, could I
remind all members to attach your current membership tag to your rucksack. Eoghan
Bailey, Secretary.

Leave No Trace – the principles of
outdoor ethics. Following on in our
series about ‘Leave No Trace – principles of outdoor ethics, which the Wee
Binnians embrace, today we cover topic No2 – Be Considerate of Others. |
|
·
Park appropriately –
keep clear of gateways, forest entrances and narrow roads. ·
Avoid damaging walls
and fences or disturbing farm animals. Respect the wishes of landowners. ·
Respect other outdoor
users and protect the quality of their experience. ·
Let nature’s sounds
prevail. Keep noise to a minimum. These principles cover all activities in the
outdoors, not just on our walks. Please discuss these issues with leaders,
committee and fellow walkers. |

Safety reminder at the beginning of the new walking season It
is an issue of personal and group risk management that each walker is
properly kitted out for the hills. At the top of this newsletter we have
listed the equipment you need to keep yourself safe on the hills so please
take a minute to refresh your memory and check your kit against these lists.
It is essential that you have everything in the MUST HAVE category and you
should be aiming to have everything we recommend as soon as you can. A walker
not properly equipped is a liability to the group and compromises group
safety Walks
leaders who carry the ultimate responsibility for the safety of the group on
the hills are justified in refusing to allow any such walker to join a walk. If
you recommend joining the club to a friend please draw their attention to
this regulation. |
