The Annual Walking Festival

As usual, a well organised festival but the numbers were down on last year due to a bad weather forecast. Fri.’s walk was Slive Gullion, led by Seamus Murphy was greatly enjoyed by all the weather was perfect. In fact it was the best day, weather-wise, of the weekend.

Saturday morning the Registration was quite busy with busses heading to the Mournes and Coolies.  The Cooley walk went well even thought they had a heavy shower in the afternoon. Whilst the Mourne Walk 1 and 2, had low cloud for most of the walk, both thankfully had no rain.  Unfortunately a walker slipped on the Grade 2 walk whilst descending Shan Slieve suffering a leg injury.  The Mourne Mountain Rescue Team was called and conducted a skilful job taking the causality off the mountain.   A big thanks to our wonderful Wee Binnian leaders who attentively look after the causality and of course the Mourne Mountains Rescue Team for their professionalism.

We have kept in contact with the lady since the incident and she is recovering.  She has expressed her gratitude to all who assisted her.  We wish her a speedy recovery.

That night, our Blister Ball was well attended by our visitors and our members. Smooth who played all the right music, were absolutely brilliant. We even had Elvis visiting us again. Great night had by all.

On Sunday morning, whilst the weather wasn’t too kind, everyone made their way to the walks. All the walks went off well and everyone returned to base, Killeavey Football Club for a fabulous tea and sandwiches and cakes which were provided by our members.

A Big Thanks: to our Sponsors, Outdoor Xchange along with Columbia., who sponsored our festival. Please support them whenever you can. Also a word of thanks to all our leaders whose expertise we depend on. The “Mrs Dolyes” who provided the hospitality for the weekend. Also a word of thanks to the members who did the reception amd registration for this weekend. It is all down to the active members, leaders and committee members that makes this festival a success. Thanks to everyone who was involved.
