COULD HAVE: - 1:25000 Mourne Country Map (For the Mournes) or Sheet No. 36 OSI 1:50000 (for the Cooley's) - Compass

GOOD IDEAS: - Carry some emergency rations - Have a change of clothes in the car

(The Leader can refuse to allow you on the walk if you do not have the basics)

October Weekend Update:

 

A detailed itinerary for the weekend will be forwarded in the next couple of weeks.

A planned recee of the walks has been done – a brief summary:

3 graded walks for each of the two days – A, B, and C.

On Saturday the walks will be in the Galty mountains taking in the beautiful Galtymore and Galtybeg mountains.

Sunday the walks will be in the Knockmealdown mountains – a beautiful range just South of the Galtys.

Our hotel is the Clonmel Park Hotel in Clonmel.

UFRC AGM:

The Chairman and Executives of the UFRC would like to invite you to attend their Annual General Meeting which will be held on Saturday 15th October 2011. The Northern Ireland Young Walkers are this year’s host (The Wee Binnian hosted this event 3 years ago) of the AGM and this will take place at the Tollymore National Outdoor Centre. If you are unfamiliar with the area their website www.tollymore.com gives details on how to get there.

 

The schedule for the meeting is as follows:

· Arrival - 9.00-9.30

· Tea & Scones – 9.30-10.00

· Walking – 10.00-1.00

· Lunch - 1.00-2.00

UFRC Mountain Navigation Course:

Thanks to all the Wee Binnians who attended the recent Mountain Navigation Basic and Advance Course. We had representation at both levels. We had a splendid day with brilliant sun shine. Hope you enjoyed and got great benefit from them. There will be more courses offered in the near Future so watch this space. Leitrim - Holey Soles Club. One day Charity Walk on Sunday October 16th 2011
Enjoy a fabulous day's hillwalking on the southern side of Glencar valley on Sunday October 16th 2011 and support a good cause at the same time. Arrive at the car park at the Castle in Manorhamilton at 11am. You will be off the mountain again by 4.30pm approx. Voluntary contributions payable on the day (or anytime!). Be generous; put your money in the bucket!
Funds raised go to support a women's education and food project in a shanty town in Lima in Peru. You can look forward to full Leitrim hospitality, some fine craic and walking. Be there!

Date: Friday 21st  to Sunday 23rd October 2011. Information: This Festival begins on Friday 21st at 9pm in their base & headquarters for the weekend, McNamara's Bar & Restaurant, Scariff, Co Clare, with a welcome reception followed by Ceol agus Craic.! They will have three graded/guided walks on Saturday & Sunday Refreshments will be served after each walk and a great night's entertainment is guaranteed on the Saturday night.
