St Patrick’s weekend trip to Westport –

Sixty club members enjoyed a great St Patrick’s weekend in Westport.  The weather was mixed in the extreme ranging from heavy snow and fog to brilliant sunshine – on the same day.  The group stayed in the Clew Bay Hotel in the town centre and enjoyed lovely rooms and great meals – and even got a free packed lunch on Saturday.  They enjoyed an excellent dinner on Saturday evening.

On Saturday the A and B groups took on Mweelrea (814m) a challenging walk in sleet, snow and fog.  The A group completed the route and had a great day.  There was some disappointment as the B group altered their route in the interests of safety but nonetheless enjoyed their walk.  The C group climbed the magnificent Ben Gorm (700m) in the same conditions and enjoyed a rather steep and challenging descent to Delphi Lodge.

On Sunday the A, B and C groups climbed Croagh Patrick in brilliant sunshine with snow on the final 200m ascent giving a good grip on the scree.
