Jim Sweeney married Edith Bentley and they came to live in the Gate Lodge of Knocklyon House near Tallaght, in Dublin. |
Jim worked as a tram driver on the Dublin/Blessington steam-tram route. Edith was a domestic cook. They had seven children. |
Jim played the accordion, but mostly preferred the fiddle. He died of bronchial pneumonia, leaving Edith a widow with one son and a house full of daughters.... Her daughter, Eileen died in her teens or early twenties. (If anyone in the family has a photo, please let me know)

Granny Sweeney heading north across O'Connell Street Bridge, in Dublin, probably in the 1960s. A street photographer used to ply his trade here, and it's he who took this photo. |
