The
Wood School |
|
About Us The old Wood School situated on the Wood Road in Ardara was built in 1834. The school was started for tenant children on Trendennick Estate on whose land the school was built. The school was a one teacher school until 1992 when a second teacher was appointed. As a result of deteriorating conditions a new school was proposed. The Church of Ireland generously donated a site for this new school. The site is situated between the Church of Ireland church and the Methodist Church in Ardara. Building of the new school started in February 1999. The old school was closed in 2000 and the new school opened in November 2000. Dr Michael Woods TD Minister for Education & Science and Bishop Mehaffey officially opened the school on 13th September 2001. Below is a photograph of the old Wood School building. A new house now stands on the site. |
