What you need for:
Stereo Setup: (Two channel
hi-fi sound)
If you have a Nicam (Near instantaneous companded audio multiplex)
Stereo Video, Sky Digital or DVD. By connecting the audio outputs
to a hi-fi. And placing the speakers about four to five feet apart
at each side of TV, will give you a much better sound. |
WARNING: Placing
large speakers too near a TV screen could damage the picture. Unless
they are magnetically shielded.

Note: To receive or play stereo material. You will need a Nicam
Stereo or hi-fi VCR, Satellite TV like Sky Digital or a DVD Player.
Dolby Pro Logic Setup: (Divides the High Frequencies
sound from a stereo signal for the rear speakers. And the dialogue for
the canter.)
With Dolby Pro Logic you will need a Prologic amplifier and 5 Speakers.
(Two main stereo, canter and two surround speakers.) This is when you
get the real cinema sound effects, when playing or viewing Dolby stereo
material.
Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS Setup: (Digital theater
surround)
Sense the arrival of DVD, things have come on a step farther. With Dolby
Digital 5.1 and DTS sound formats giving a much better again sound than
pro logic. (With two main stereo, canter and two surround speakers and
a Sub as the 6th channel. With Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS the rear surround
channels are now in stereo as well. Giving a much wider sound field. E.g.
better effects)
For this setup you will need a home cinema amp DTS decoding & 5 speakers
& sub.

Mono
Old movies had only a Mono soundtrack (1 audio channel) If you listen
to a mono movie on a surround sound system, the sound will only
be heard from the canter speaker

Stereo
Two channels of audio left & right.
Like in a normal hi-fi stereo system.

Dolby Pro Logic
Like Dolby Surround but
has an extra sound channel.
Left, right, center & a mono signal for rear speakers.

Dolby Digital 5.1/DTS
Left, right, center, left & right rear. Plus a LFE (low frequency
effect) Base channel for a subwoofer

Dolby Digital EX / DTS ES

Connections: To get the most out of satellite,
you should connect your satellite receiver to your Nicam Stereo
VCR via Scart lead. Then connect your VCR to your hi-fi or home
cinema amp via scart to phone leads.
Then connect the amp from the monitor out on the amp to TV Via phono
to scart.
You can also connect the satellite to TV via scart to scart, this
will let you record terrestrial while watching a satellite channel
at the same time.
