On 14 Dec 1901, after Joseph died, Sarah filed for a widow's pension(for Joseph's Civil War service).
Letters to the Pension office in 1916 & 1922 (in Sarah's hand) showthat she was living in Montour Falls, NY in those years, but seems tobe living elsewhere in between.
Notes found by Edith Palmer Perry show that Sarah Eveland Spielmansmoked a clay pipe.
"Sara Spelman" (widow, age 79) was found on the 1920 Schuyler co., NYcensus living at 304 Sixth St., Watkins, NY with her grandaughter Etta(age 39), wife of Olie Olsen (age 57) b. Norway, tailor in tailorshop. Sara was called "grandmother". Etta's children were GeorgeOlsen, 18, single, laborer in Salt Works, Mary Olsen, 15 & AliceOlsen, 13.

[2420] From Civil War Pension file: Married by Elder Jonathan Ketchum; nomarriage records exist except witnesses & Bible records (holderunknown). This elder died shortly following the ceremony - possiblythe elder at the Wayne Baptist Church. Witnesses were Joseph Evelandand Ursula Hopkins.
