One descendant writes: "Andrew McCutcheon & Jane Adair were married18 DEC 1760 Kirkmaiden, Wigtown, Scotland. Because of this, I placeAndrew's birth date closer to 1740. Peter's birth I place after 1766.Family legend says that Andrew McCutcheon came to America, sailingfrom Glasgow in the family sloop which was sold probably in NYC. Mymother remembers seeing the ship's log book when she was a girl andhearing stories and seeing certain items of china and silver owned byher mother's sister that were said to have come over from Scotland.Unfortunately, I understand that at her son's retirement everythingwas sold at a huge antique sale in Albion, MI. It is thought that theMcCutcheon and Robertson family knew each other in Scotland. Andrewwas a Private in the Revolutionary War from New York State. And another descendant writes: "Otis Mccutcheon was told by hisgrandfather George Sr. that Andrew lived in Inverness Shire. Seafaring people Andrew owned his own sloop. He also was a smugglersailing on the German sea. Must have met Jean Adair on one of histrips into Kirkmaiden. Because of the Revenue laws and fear of beingcaught they escaped to Belfast and then sailed to America. Theirdaughter Jean McCutcheon was born in 1766. Peter (son of Andrew)believed born in 1776 & died in 1847 @ the age of 80."
