ST. PIUS COMPUTER ROOM
Our computer room has developed into a state of the art facility for the children of St. Pius. We are indebted to many of our parents who are involved in the IT sector. They have formed a computer support group and advise on development isues as well as taking a more hands on approach when necessary. Without their help we could not afford to troubleshoot all the problems that invariably arise. We are secure in the knowledge that they are only an e-mail away when there's a problem and that it will be fixed usually within 48 hours. In the past few months, the computer support group has
  • compiled the specifications for our new PC's (April 2002) and negotiated very keen prices for same
  • added these machines to the network
  • cabled every classroom in the school for network and internet access
  • installed network cards on the older PC's and configured these for network access
  • fixed hardware problems too numerous to mention.
  • identified and addressed potential virus and filtering issues
  • installed a state of the art projector in the computer room
  • acquired numerous pieces of software and hardware free of charge, generally from companies in the private sector with which they are associated.

Many thanks to Gerry Hinds, Colm O'Keeffe, Sarah Hogan, Oran Gallen, Seán Grant, Pat Clarke, Will Rothwell and Frank Lynch for their much valued contributions. If you have experience in IT and could spare one evening a month, please get in touch with Liam Gaynor at piusxbns.ias@eircom.net
New faces are always welcome.
