The Magic Carpet

The Magic Carpet

By James, Mr. Gaynor's 4th Class

It was Sunday and I had nothing to do, so I asked my Mum could I go to the Jumble Store. She said "yes", so I walked up to the Jumble Store where there was a sale on. But when I got there, the sale was over. I was too late. Just before I was about to turn back and walk home, I saw a carpet. It was perfect for my tree house and I needed it badly. My Mum wouldn’t let me have one of her carpets because she thought it was a waste, so I needed it.

The carpet had gold tassels with purple and gold stripes and silver sparkles. When I went to see how much it cost, The price tag read eighty euro! "What kind of carpet costs eighty euro", I shouted in my head. "What kind of carpet costs eighty euro". I knew something was wrong so I grabbed the carpet and went to see if the store was still open. "Excuse me, are you still open?" I questioned. "No, but I’ll let you come in", the shopkeeper replied. The shopkeeper was tanned and by the sound of his voice I guessed that he was Indian. He was wearing a turban on his head and was dressed in a kaftan. "So I was wondering why this carpet costs eighty euro". "Well, it costs so much because it is a magic carpet", he said. "What to you mean by that?" I asked. "Because it can fly". "Fly!"

"Yes, but it has a curse and if you don’t treat it well, you will suffer the consequences". "Yeah, whatever", I said. "So are you buying?" he asked me. "No", I sighed.

So I went home because it was getting late. That night I was thinking of getting a job, but then I thought, what kind of person would give a ten year old a job. But then I remembered that tomorrow would be my birthday and I was sure to get at least eighty euro. When I got up in the morning I got a card and when I opened the card, there was eighty euro! I bet you’re wondering why I got eighty euro. Well, because that’s the only thing that I was getting for my birthday. I couldn’t get the carpet then because I had school. All day through school I couldn’t stop daydreaming about me flying on the carpet. Time flew by like I was just flying on the carpet all day. It was home time and I rode so fast that I nearly knocked down a cat. I rode straight to the Jumble Store and when I got there I locked my bike to a pole and went into the shop.

"Hey, do you still have that carpet?" "Yes I do, do you want to buy it?" "Yes", I said, as I was glancing around to see if I could see the carpet. So I gave the money to the shopkeeper, rolled the carpet up and safely put it into my bag.

When I got home, I ran up to my tree house and shut the door so my Mum wouldn’t know what I was doing. Straight away I laid the carpet on the floor, sat on it and closed my eyes. Waiting impatiently I opened my eyes and checked to see if I was flying, but I wasn’t. The carpet was still on the floor. That guy lied to me. What was I thinking, ooh, this carpet can fly! I’m so stupid. I wasted eighty euro on a stupid carpet. So I knew the carpet was no use to me now. I threw it in the bin. When I was going to bed, it started to get windy outside and I knew it would be a horrible day tomorrow. So I went to bed feeling miserable and depressed. All night I was shivering, but then I felt something hit my face. I woke up but I wasn’t in my room, I was outside flying in the air!

"I’m flying", I yelled. "I’m flying". But wait a second, where am I going? The carpet was flying over eighty kilometres per hour. The carpet was spinning and turning and I didn’t know where I was now. The carpet was coming up near a beach but why would the carpet take me there. I tried to think what the shopkeeper had told me and just then it hit me. I remembered him saying "If you don’t treat it well you will suffer the consequences". Then I thought to myself, maybe if I treat the carpet nicely then it will do the same for me. Just when the carpet was about to drop me in the water I told it "I’m sorry the way I treated you, please forgive me and don’t drop me into the water" I yelled over the roar of the wind passing by. All of a sudden the carpet came to a halt and just hovered in the air. Had the carpet forgiven me? "I promise that I won’t treat you badly ever again. I’ll guard you with my life, just please, please take me back home", I pleaded.

Straight away the carpet shot off and I nearly fell off my carpet. Flying on my carpet I felt safe. We were coming up to my house and the carpet started to slow down. The carpet went in through my window and gently laid me down on my bed. So I cuddled up in my covers and fell fast asleep. The lesson I learned in this adventure is that you should always treat your valuables with respect.

The End

They went to the moon mine only see “Ross what are you doing here “Bruse snapped

Are you sure the president is really coming here”? Bruse asked Conor nervously. “I’m sure “he answered distractedly trying to think of a way to convince President Mick Dobey to sponsor them for their mine corporation called Mine Corp mOOn  “I think he might have forgotten the meeting or maybe he ditched us for Ross” Bruse  muttered angrily.  “Maybe we should leave” uttered Conor sadly.  As he got up to go he saw it …. An envelope full of money addressed to themselves at the other side of the office, he ran to it hopefully looking at it disbelievingly.  “We might have just enough here to go to the moon after all“he proclaimed.

The following day Conor and Bruse found themselves on the shuttle with the specially constructed digger which they purchased with the money given to them so mysteriously.

They went to the moon mine only to see…

“Ross, what are you doing here? “ Bruse snapped. “Digging the mine, what else?” Ross sneered coldly “I see you are trying to give me some competition but with just a lone digger you won’t get far”. Bruse clenched his knuckles in fury, “Conor, last I heard you were broke because you donated all your money to aid the hospitals, yet you’re here, and you, Bruse, you were arrested after being framed.” “You framed him didn’t you?” Conor exclaimed. He didn’t mean to utter those words. “Let’s go” Bruse mumbled. “Alright” Conor said.

They went to the next moon mine but they found 8 diggers already there and the next mine and the next and so on and so on. The following day they realised that the only way to get the money and save the dying people in those hospitals was by force.

As they put on their air-helmets Conor wasn’t sure that they were doing the right thing. He told his troubles to Bruse who replied “It makes more sense hurting one evil man and saving hundreds of good people’s lives.” “I suppose you’re right” Conor said gloomily.

At the moon mine later that day, Bruse ran at Ross, who was standing at the edge of a crater and screamed furiously. He followed his enemy into the pit of the crater, but then he heard Conor shouting at him to stop.  Bruse turned and walked towards Conor. “We shouldn’t be doing this. We shouldn’t be attacking someone. We’re supposed to be saving people with our money” Conor said. “But we could be saving people now, if he wasn’t here” Bruse replied.  “I know that but we can’t just kill him” argued Conor. Bruse roared, shouting, “I hate him”.

Knocking Conor to the ground, Bruse ran up towards the crater in pursuit of Ross. He reached Ross and after a struggle, Bruse tried to throw him on the ground, but instead, Ross just ended up floating even further away. “Damn this low gravity!” Bruse screamed in anger. He chased Ross with a mad glint in his eye. There was a digger straight ahead. Blinded by fury, he ran straight into the machine, which toppled onto Ross. Both men fell in opposite directions, one trapped under the digger and the other floating away, to be left forever as a wandering spirit in the universe.

When Conor arrived on the scene moments later, there was a floating blob of blood blocking his vision. He wiped it away and saw Ross lying on the ground and far in the distance he could barely make out a body floating away. “Bruse?” Conor whispered desperately before it dawned on him, whose body it was that was disappearing into the night sky.

Falling to his knees, Conor screamed out, “BRUUUUUUUUUSSSE” A tear trickled down his face, as he felt his hands begin to shake. It felt as if his heart had been pulled right out of him, his best friend gone forever.  An indescribable pain took over. He was frozen with shock.  Trying to get up, he felt his knees give way and so he was forced to stay seated and watch his friend’s body grow smaller and smaller.

When the sun reappeared from behind the earth, he finally got up, not knowing how long he had sat helplessly. His first thought was to leave the moon all together because this place had too many bad memories, but after thinking it over, he remembered why Bruse had attacked Ross in the first place.  Bruse had given his life to try and get money for the charities.

After recovering, Conor brought the remaining diggers to the mine and set them up. He got them to work and soon everything was functioning properly. Within days he was able to send precious metal back to Earth. In the following week he had enough to set up two more hospitals in third world countries.

To this day, Conor is still raising money for charity in many ways and has not only mines on the moon, but also on Mars and several other secret planets. He has raised tens of millions of euro for charity and has made a difference to millions of people.
