Beavers Logo

Beaver scouts are our junior section for 6 - 8 years of age. Their programme is designed to meet the needs of young people of this age group. The emphasis is on meeting and interacting with people of their own age in a programme based around fun and discovery

The motto of Beavering is `Sharing' and this is reflected in the programme where the young person learns to share through co-operation, teamwork and effort. Therefore Beavering is designed on a positive group basis

Some of the activities enjoyed at Beaver meetings include: active and quiet games, stories, creative crafts, singing, nature study, etc. Once a month, a Beaver Colony may have a special event or activity. These could be hikes, visits, picnics, etc.

Cub Scouts Logo

Cub Scouting is for young people who are 8 - 11 years of age.

Children of 8 years of age have already passed through their first stages of development (Beavers) and are ready to discover the wider world and find out and experiment with it. The young person of Cub scout age will experience many changes in their lives. Cub Scouting aims to assist this development in a natural way by being aware of the needs of young people of this age group and designing and running programmes and activities that compliment this developmental progression.

Scouts Logo

This section is for members of the association between the ages of 11 to 15. Scouts work as members of a “Patrol”, which is ideally made up of six to eight Scouts, within a “Troop” which would have four to six Patrols. A Scout troop operates under the guidance of the Scout Leaders.

As Patrols the focus of activities Scouts participate in deal mainly with the outdoors. During the course of the year the troop would go on weekend activities such as day long or overnight hikes, weekend camps either staying in tents or in Scout Centres and on these activities they could undertake smaller tasks such as backwoods cooking (cooking on an open fire), pioneering projects (like bridge building) and playing games. Troops also meet once a week where they would learn and practice the skills necessary for the weekend activities as well as play games and other fun activities. Although leaders are there to run the programme the opportunity is there for members to take on responsibilities within the troop and recognition for this and other achievements is done through the “Badge work System”.

Ventures Logo

Venture scouts is for young adults between the ages of 15 – 21. This is their final stage in the progression to adulthood. The programme is mainly activity based, being run by themselves for themselves. The leaders role in Ventures is purely as a facilitator to make sure everything runs smoothly and to offer advice.

A committee is elected each year which includes a chairperson, secretary, treasurer and one or two others. They will meet on a regular basis outside of regular meeting times to organise the programme for the coming weeks.
