Community Education Coordinator

 Tutor management

Please note, non-registered Tutors are the responsibility of the Centre /Organisation for all purposes including payment, taxes, holidays, Insurance etc

  1. Appointing the Tutor, ensuring that students needs are matched with Tutors skills.
  2. Evaluate the Tutors ability and acceptance by the students.
  3. Registered Tutors need not reapply when working in another centre, however the co-ordinator should inform the AEO of her new Tutor.
  4. The Community Tutor database is available per subject to access Tutors.

Please note, where a VEC Teaching Panel is formed in the subject area of the proposed course, panel teachers will have first choice on the available teaching hours.

The co-ordinator must ensure the proposed Tutor attend for interview and bring with them

  1. A completed Application Form and countersigned by the educational coordinator.
  2. A completed current CV
  3. A letter of general reference
  4. A letter of recommendation of suitability from the education coordinator including qualifications, skills, experience, communication ability, acceptance and capacity to work with the adults.
  5. Await sanction from the AEO, before allowing the applicant to access any of the allocated hours pending ratification by the Adult Education Board.

 Course Management:

  1. Make application for ALCE -Adult literacy & Community Education teaching hours each year.
  2. Advertising of courses
  3. Planning the course content with the Tutor,-Title, Aims and content of the course, the reason for the course, What is the demand for the course and how is it assessed, How will the course encourage "initial and return contact" to education. The benefits and expected learning outcomes. Duration-how many weeks and hours per week will the course run. What evaluation will take place during and at the end of the course,What certification & qualification will the Adult Students obtain.
  4. Monitoring numbers attending and explaining fall off in numbers.
  5. Awareness of other courses in the Learning Locality and co-operate with other groups for effective provision of Adult Community Education Courses in the area.
  6. Facilitating the Tutor in respect of rooms /Times for courses.
  7. Supporting the Tutor with problems that may arise.
  8. Manage ALCE hour allocation during the year
  9. Present for payment accurate time sheets countersigned and on time.
  10. Complete ALCE Annual and requested Reports
