The Creamery

John Hannon is a member of staff at the local creamery.
He is working at the creamery for the past 15 years.
The creamery is no longer a creamery it is now a hardware store.
John Hannon went to the creamery with his father when he was young.
In the past, people milked their cows, then they brought their milk to the creamery.
Then the milk was made into cream and was sent to Castlelyons to be made into butter.
On a busy day, 40 or 50 customers came to the creamery.
The manager's name was John Finn.
John Hannon first started at the milk section where he was paid £12 per week.
He then was moved to the hardware section, where he was paid more.
The creamery was built in the 1940s. At that stage, there was 100 milk suppliers both big and small.

The Garda Station

Garda Station

The Garda Station in Ballyduff was built along time ago. However it was supposed to be built in India but it was built in Ballyduff !! It is situated on the top of a hill. This tells us that it was meant to be a castle. In the old days people built castles on high ground so if the castle was being attacked it would be easy for the defenders to keep watch and hard for the attackers to get up the hill.

This castle had little turrets. These turrets were used for defending the people who were inside the castle. They used to stick their weapons out these little turrets. It was very easy to hit the attackers but impossible for the attackers to shoot back at them. Until 1921, the R.I.C (Role Irish Constabutary) were here. It was then taken over by the Garda Siochána. Larry O'Hara, the person interviewed, lived in this station from 1978 to 1986.
