Hospice Garden Diary

Our Day at the Donegal Hospice!
21/10/05

On Friday the 21st October we visited the Donegal Hospice. We met with six pupils from schools in Letterkenny including St.Bernadette's, Scoil Mhuire Gan Smal and Scoil Colmcille and four pupils from a school in Strabane and four from a school in Derry.

First of all, we got red hard hats and gardening gloves. A lady named Mary Ferguson who works for the Braidwater building society wrote each of our names on our hardhats. When we got our hardhats on a photographer named Connor took photos of us along with the other schools. After that we got to work.

We each got one shrub to plant. We had to place the shrubs in, cover them with soil and water them. We planted them in a corner of the hospice garden. We got highlighters, stress brick, t-shirt and a wallet. When we were finished we went to McDonalds. It was a lovely treat! We really enjoyed the day out at the hospice.

The Adrian Mitchell Society

The Society was set up in memory of little Adrian Mitchell. Adrian's courage in his battle against his terminal illness and his brave attitude in the face of severe pain served to inspire the Hospice movement. The Adrian Mitchell Society encourages the gifts of compassion and caring. Local primary schools strive to encourage a sense of fellowship, neighbourliness and human kindness through a variety of activities including music, art and creative writing.

Ballyraine NS are supporting the Adrian Mitchell Society through the following activities and projects:

Developing a wildlife garden in the Hospice grounds.
Providing bird feeders on the verandas
Making scrapbooks of creative writing and artwork for patients.
The school choir took part in the Donegal Hospice Christmas service broadcast by Highland Radio.
