Community Project

Our Community Centre and Hostel opening soon Our state of the art Computer Training Centre

Work continues at a very satisfactory pace on the Community Centre and Hostel. The fine weather over the last few weeks has meant the Fás workers have been able to concentrate on outside work in a serious way. Fás in Tralee have facilitated us greatly and are advising on the project with their work programme scheduled to be completed by mid summer. The big imput by the Fas organisation and the local Fas workers has meant the initial project is running to budgeted cost and the Board has now turned it’s attention to the use to which the site can be put.
The three small business units are complete and ready for customisation for whatever business we can attract.
The cost of customising one of the three units as a training centre was £90,000. Udarás are giving £75,000 and we had tofind £15,000 ourselves to set up a computer network, 20 PCs, computer projectors, cabling, furniture, fittings etc.
We have two other serious enquiries about using the other units, using computer technology and telesales technology. It is too early to say when people might be employed, but we are confident that before year-end, two units will be up and running
Our first plan was to use one of the units as a training centre for computer courses. Fás agreed to run a five-month full time day course for 20 people in computer skills, basic telemarketing and presentational skills.
The course was fully booked out and was a great success.
