Clontarf Landscapes Wins
the Bog Oak Trophy for 2001
The Association of Landscape
Contractors of Ireland (A.L.C.I) organises the most prestigious landscaping
competition in Ireland. In 2001, Clontarf Landscapes won two of eight categories
for the South of Ireland Region - Best Private Garden for a contract of
value greater than £10,000 - Best Commercial Landscape Contract of
greater than £50,000 in value. Clontarf Landscapes commercial contract
was nominated as best contract from all eight categories - this was then
put forward against the best Northern Ireland landscape contract (at the
Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast) - the result was announced at the awards
ceremony in Malahide on the 19th of October. Clontarf Landscapes was awarded
the Supreme Winner for the whole of Ireland and will hold the Bog Oak Trophy
for the next year.
The private garden on the left above won the 2001 ALCI award for
best private garden for a contract over £10,000 in value. The work
included a brick driveway with pebble surround and quarried limestone edging
- this type of hybrid driveway incorporating more than one material is
a speciality of the company. The back garden has a timber deck, reproduction
Cotswold slab paving and a stream and pond. More of this garden in the
Garden Design Page.
This is a photograph of the Victorian Garden at 31/33 Merrion Road,
Ballsbridge. This project consists of four separate gardens - five water
features - cobbles sets and pebbles with inset diamond pattern for paths
- Laburnum arches - a scented rose garden - reproduction Victorian urns
- too many features to detail. The final result has been judged the best
landscape contract for 2001, and it is all built on only 12 inches of topsoil
over a car park! Approx 75% of the gardens are constructed as roof garden
over the underground carpark (all irrigation and drainage work was included
in the landscape contract). These gardens were designed and constructed
by Clontarf Landscapes for the developers Capel Developments to provide
a high quality, comfortable, and usable garden for one the most prestigious
rental properties in the country. The contract at
31/33 Merrion Road won the Bog Oak Trophy for All-Ireland Landscape Contract
of the Year for 2001.
