Adult Guidance Services In Cork

Career Guidance services for adults can roughly be divided into two sections, the educational sector and the labour market.


Educational Sector:

Anyone attending a Post Leaving Certificate College or a third level institute will have access to a Guidance Counsellor. Third level universities and Institutes of Technology also offer a student counselling service. Within the VEC system, students and those in community education settings have access to guidance counsellors.


The Adult Educational Guidance Initiative (AEGI) was established to provide guidance to adults participating in VTOS, literacy and other community education programmes.



Labour Market:

FÁS is the national Training and Employment Authority in Ireland. Guidance services are available to:
  • Unemployed / job seekers
  • people with disabilities
  • asylum seekers / refugees
  • early school leavers

  • Government Buildings, Sullivans Quay
  • FÁS Training Centre, Rossa Avenue, Bispostown and
  • 30/31 Shandon Street

The Local Employment Service (LES) also provides adult guidance and targets the long-term unemployed and those from disadvantaged areas. LES offices are located in City Centre, Gurranabraher, Blackpool, Mahon, Togher, Hollyhill, and Mayfield. You can phone (021) 4302310 for further details.


The Centre for the Unemployed on North Main Street runs a Job Club for unemployed adults. This gives peer support in conducting a job search and also helps participants develop a career plan.
