Code of Discipline.

The Code of Discipline for Scoil Nioclįs Naofa, Dunmore is drawn up as outlined in "Guidelines for Primary Education" contained in circular 20/90, which was issued by the Department of Education.

Our Code of Behaviour is firmly based on promoting a sense of self-discipline in the child.  In drafting this policy, the staff of Scoil Nioclįs Naofa has consulted with the partners in Education, and all submissions on the policy are considered at the year end evaluation.

All pupils, of varying abilities are encouraged to adopt a positive attitude towards learning within and without school.

Good relationships will be established between all who are involved in the school.

A positive school environment will be developed and the highest possible degree of consensus about standards of behaviour among staff will be promoted.

Children will be encouraged to be punctual and attend school regularly.  They will be encouraged to have good manners and show courtesy and consideration for others. They will be encouraged to take care of and respect property.   They will be encouraged to be tidy.

To deal with instances of misbehaviour, the following graded system of sanctions will be used:
First Offence:  Reasoning with pupil with advice on how to improve.
Second Offence:  Parent consultation with the Principal.
Third Offence: The misbehaviour will be looked on as serious and the matter will be referred to the Board of Management.

Every effort will be made to have an emotionally disturbed child referred for Psychological Assessment .
