My first morning with the D100
Was a little disappointing as the images were soft and grainier than expected. These issue were discussed at length in DPreview but essentially the cure was to shoot in sRGB mode, which may go against other advice, use RAW and NC3 for the best quality, this made a really big difference and my D100 Raw/NC3 files really began to take on the D1x. And finally fit good glass to the D100, AFS highly recommended. At time of writing, June 2003, my D100 is one year old and in that time took some 21,000 exposures in all arenas. For a time it was my primary camera as the D1x was just not as advanced and just could not keep up with field endurance or flash control reliability. Apart from the hassle over the firmware, and sadly a decision which made me change brands to a manufacturer who would supply ongoing firmware update online, but apart from that the D100 has performed flawlessly and is due to be replaced when the next Canon proposed 3D is released in the Autumn 2003 (expected). Its been a good and faithful servant and I hope the next purchaser has the same luck I had. |
