Only recently formed, Impromp2 is already recognised as one of Ireland's leading ensembles.
The classical guitar duo, comprising Michael O'Toole and Alec O'Leary, are highly respected and are regarded as being the most talented classical guitarists of their generation in Ireland.
They are well noted for their many striking arrangements and their constant contribution to the repertoire. Both Alec and Michael have performed around the world as soloists and in ensemble and have performed on both national radio and television broadcasts.
Critics and audiences acknowledge the young musicians bubbling temperament in virtuoso recital, their highly sensitive and creative ability in musical phrasing and articulation, and their extraordinary tone, which fills even the largest auditoriums with a warm, rich sound.
Michael O'Toole studied for many years with John Feeley and also spent two years studying with the renowned Cuban virtuoso Ricardo Iznaola in Denver.
In August 2004, Michael performed Rodrigo's Concerto de Aranjuez in the National Concert Hall with The RTE Concert Orchestra under the baton of David Brophy, the performance was broadcast live by Lyric FM.
Alec O' Leary, Director of the Guitar Festival of Ireland, is widely regarded as one of the foremost guitarists of his generation. He too, spent many years studying guitar with John Feeley at Dublin Conservatory of Music and Drama. Alec has won a number of prizes including the Solo Bach Prize and the Senior
Guitar Prize and has had tuition from many distinguished players, such as Manuel Barreuco, Roland Dyens, Scott Tennant, Sergio Assad, Elena Papandreou and Fabio Zannon.
Both guitarists have had special guitars made for them by world renowned Irish luthier Michael J. O'Leary.
