Cinema Nights

Cinema Night 1 'Woody Allen - Sweet and Low Down'
Woody Allen makes beautiful music but only fitful comedy with his story of "the second greatest guitar player in the world." Sean Penn plays Emmett Ray, an irresponsible, womanizing swing guitar player in Depression-era America who is guided by an ego almost as large as his talent. "I'm an artist, a truly great artist," he proclaims time and time again, and when he plays, soaring into a blissed-out world of pure melodic beauty, he proves it. Samantha Morton almost steals the film as his mute girlfriend Hattie, a sweet Chaplinesque waif who loves him unconditionally, and Uma Thurman brings haughty moxie to her role as a slumming socialite and aspiring writer who's forever analyzing Emmett's peculiarities (like taking his dates to shoot rats at the city dump). Shot by Zhao Fei ( The Emperor and the Assassin , Raise the Red Lantern ), it's one of Allen's most gorgeous and colorful films in years, buoyed by toe-tapping music and Penn's gruffly charming performance.

Miguelangel 'Angel' Lejarza @ 1:10 pm

Born in Tepeji del Rio, Mexico, Miguelangel ‘Angel' Lejarza obtained his degree with first-class honours from the Concervatorio Nacional de Musica in Mexico City before leaving for France to study guitar and early music at the Schola Cantorum de Paris . As a soloist he has performed throughout Europe, as well as in Algeria, Morocco and the US, and he has recorded four solo albums for the AULOS label.
Cinema Night 2 'Carlos Saura - Flamenco'
Carlos Saura, most famous for his film, the flamenco CARMEN - involved the restaging of a dance ballet, by setting it within a film ABOUT its being staged - knows his flamenco, and has found an integral style in which to present a series of artists in performances that 'speak' for themselves.
Lighting, staging, and choice of musical/dance genre in each case is carefully crafted. In fact, his influence has been such that it has revolutionised the staging of theatrical flamenco. This is not only the best film on flamenco and a must for anyone who loves flamenco, but one of the best dance films ever, and a must for anyone who loves to watch flamenco.

Clive Barnes @ 1:10 pm
"Clive Barnes plays lapslide and regular acoustic guitar, his songs are achingly beautiful, played with a passion rarely seen and an intensity impossible to fake" said the Boston Globe (USA).
Imagine a slightly less gritty version of Tom Waits, backed by guitar playing so powerful and melodic, it will leave you speechless!
Clive has released four albums to date, 1999's "Shine", 2001's "Welcome To Farewell" and 2002's "Live at The Spirit Store" and the latest "Goldtooth Cinnamon". All four albums were met with amazing critical response. Welcome to Farewell went on to win "Homegrown Album of the year 2002" in the US and the world's most infulentual acoustic guitar magazine "Acoustic Guitar", paving the way for fully sold out tours of the USA in 2002 and 2003.
Goldtooth Cinnamon lifts everything Clive has done to a new level, with songwriting, lyrics and guitar playing pushed to new hights.
Clive has shared stages with acts the caliber of The Blind Boys of Alabama, Solomon Burke, Peter Green, Jimmy Dale Gilmore, Butch Hancock, Joe Ely, and David Crosby who called Clive "the closest thing to an acoustic rollercoaster ride i've ever seen!"
Clive recently recieved two costom built guitars from Stanford, an acknowledgement of how Clive has pushed finger style acoustic guitar into a new place!
"Clive is a player of mood, passion and unbound ability" Acoustic Guitar Magazine
"Clive is an supremly deft slide guitarist with a burned Tom Waits like vocal" The Irish Times
"Clive is the finest acoustic guitar exponent to emerge in recent years"
Paul Dromey, The Irish Examiner.
"Clive is a great, great guitarist" Gary Lucas.
