Review 13/8/03
Hello there , It has been a while since I had the time to sit and update the site, We have been out and about , plying Meath and Wicklow a bit more , we feel that we have overplayed some local venues and we should move on , we have some new songs on line and will have them in the set n the next few weeks , Con has added another three Guitars to his collection , a new electric drum kit has graced the stage , I don't know if I like playing it though. Time will tell . Anyway we don't have a large amount of news or scandal , we would like people to go to the message board and leave a song request , we have received quite a few and we will try learn all of them , the ones that sound to shit wont ever be heard live. Keep them coming
Chat soon

Update Monday 30th June
Hello and welcome to the weekend review page , To review the gigs we have done since the last update would be to much of a task for me to attempt , We have played a lot of venues , had the best of fun , from hen nights to pubs and clubs , thanks to those who have befriended the band on our nights in their local , we enjoy meeting the heads and having the craic . Now that the trusty pc is back I hope I can Keep this updated , If anyone who regularly attends any of our gigs would like a shot at roving reporter, just write a review and email it to me ehalligan@esatclear.ie , if it is not rude or offensive we will post it on the site ,We may have a reward for the writer. Let us see what you think???????????
Update Monday 24th March
Good weekend for the Gobi lads
Friday night was almost a non starter, on Tuesday we still had no Guitarist , Con was out of the country.
I got chatting to a band buddy of many years and he suggested calling Paul Owens a long lost old band buddy , Paul is currently playing with Qween www.qween.cgi.net . (Obviously a Queen tribute)
Paul Stood in for the night and as usual dazzled people with his excellent talent ( he can play guitar to)
No in all fairness the guy had never heard us before and he was the one who made the fewest mistakes on the night.
Many Many thanks to Paul, There is a link above to their site and anyone into fast melodic guitar work should pack the sambo's & thermos and head for a Qween gig .Paul I hope will play with Gobi again someday but for now I will leave you with the photo of Paul from the site, disguised as his alter ego BRIAN MAIZE.
Thanks again Paul
Sunday night in Coopers was a blast , the crowd was very Saturdayish considering it was Sunday. I cant help wondering who really made it to work On monday????????? Anyone feeling guilty??????
Thanks to all who attended Friday and Sunday, We really enjoyed playing for you all and hope to see you all soon.
P.S thanks to the girls in Blessington, They admitted being on this site, there are times i feel its just there doing nothing, Its nice to hear some people visit regularly.
CHHHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

Review of The Copper Bar 31st August From Hal |
The night started at a party involving lots of drink and a cool bouncy castle, then into what seemed to be a quiet Copper bar we went. By the time we were set up the place was full and the crowd seemed to be a bit amused by Willies dancing and running around. It was nice for me to do a gig within crawling distance of home. The Copper bar is a great little venue, the crowd are awake and they are ready to party. They were hopping through out the night and we got the phone call on sunday to ask us to play there again, so dates have to be set. We had Mick lambe & Greeno up for a song and Willie kept looking for stuff to climb up on. Not easy in such a limited space but since it was the first gig since Willie got back from Florida we were mad for it. We should have had Friday night in the Millhouse in Rathangan but we only discovered that there was a cancellation as we arrived, sorry to anyone who travelled in vain. We will be there again but we have to talk to the managment regarding the cancellations. So in closing thanks Edenderry for a great night and thanks to Beavis and Ja ja, Ross & co (to many to name) for a great session. Hope to see you all there again soon P.S The speedo photos have just been left in and should be here for viewing by the weekend. Sorry about the delay but we are so busy in every sense right now. Thanks for all who voted. You have been struck from my christmas card list. I have to admit I really enjoyed getting my kit off that night. If you happen to have any photos of me or any member of Gobi in a equally embarrising moment please feel free to send them to fergal@revelate-rock.com He looks after the site and I'm sure he will find a good olace to put them on this site. Review of Dagwelds 3rd August From Hal |
Turning into a hopping venue Dagwelds has turned around. The interior is very modern in a log cabin sort of way, the bar is big, well staffed and right in the middle where even the drunkest of us can find it (anyone who didn't, its the big round bit with the neon light over it) I arrived a wee bit late having to go back to the house for my drum mics. Eoin on bass was away in Galway races for the weekend and Ger Timmons from Fools Gold www.foolsgold.org stood in on Bass. He did a great job and even sang one. The crowd in dags are always friendly and getting gear in and all the chat tends to delay things but it's nice to. A few regulars who were at the Druids bike rally were there (HOWAYA LADS). Willie had prearranged the songs to do so that Ger would know them but as usual he announced songs that none of us had played before and it seemed to go alright. I had my camera behind the drums and thought I'd surprise the lads with some shots. I got more of the ceiling and floor than anything. So there we go, Willie is now sunning himself in the USA and the rest of us are here in the rain. See you all in Dowling's on the 25th, Where the lucky sexy member will be wearing his Speedos for one whole song, Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggghhhhhhhhh Hope it isn't me lucky I am not the pretty Gobi Bye for now , Thanks for the support

Weekend Review starting from last Thursday 29th July From Hal |
Hello again, I have to say as weekends go this one kicked ass (mine) . Started Thursday night a double Raggle birthday , Mick and Derek ,drank till I was sick and then drank more , Then Friday night hopped into the motor and drove to Nurney to the Druids Bike rally , Music on friday night was provided by Revelate and as this wasn't a quiet pub gig , They rocked the place. Then after little sleep I got myself together and headed to Nuurney yet again , all seemed quiet but soon after there were bikes coming from nowhere , They expected a crowd of around 3500 and id say it was close , By the time we were to play it was jammed , I got on stage , sat behind the kit and said oh jazuz , there was a sea of people , It took me a good three songs to relax , I think the amount of cans of Bud in me helped also . Many thanks to the Druids club for a very well run and always enjoyable event , Thanks to The Raggle Taggle Gypsy`so for having me play with them . Anyway I'm here to talk about Gobi news , Willie and Con slept together for the first time sat night , In the back of the van in Kilkenny following a great Paul Simon show , Willie Threw up in the Van on the way home , We all arrived a bit late in dowlings last night , All with very worn out looks , The gig started quiet but as usual in dowlings it filled up rather fast , The crowd were shouting wild near the end which is why we always love to play that venue , It has never been a let down , We tried a new Bon Jovi song off the cuff ( You Give Love A Bad name ) which despite no practice seemed to work well , So that's about it , thanks to all the usual faces some that were even down in nurney (mark The Chicken Dancer) . Thanks to all who showed up at the gig last night , were nothing without you people , Thank you . Now I am going to go put my head down and practice as an Olympic sleeper , Hope to see you all in dags Saturday night , Our new poster will be on display , I hate photos,,, aaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhh Best regards

Various gigs since , July 5th Review From Hal |
Ok its been a while since I had a pc to do my gig review, so I have a few to do. I'll just take July so far, 5th July The keg, Newbridge. Our first night to play there and It was a great gig, the crowd were alive and kicking. We seemed to play well and it went down really well. Probably the best gig I have done with Gobi since joining last october. Of course the Millhouse on the 12th was no surprise except for me and Willie stripping to the waist. Willie playing dums and me singing, if you could call my crooning singing. Yes it was "Good Riddance by Green Day " my party piece. It has been so long since I typed that this is taking me ages. Hello to all the regular Gobi crowd, Domo Thorpe has me standing in playing at the bike rally in Nurney on July 27th, which is one of my favorite weekends of the year and this year the band line up is great. You have the great rock styling of Revelate on friday night, not to be missed and then saturday im playing with my Raggle taggle gypsy buds. Hopefully sobering up enough to play with Gobi on sunday night in Dowling's. Apologies to anyone who sees me on Sunday night, all I can say is even if the lights are on it does not mean someone is at home. A final thank you to the person who managed to make off with willies radio microphone and my box of Audix mics, I hope you enjoy hours of good sound with them (not) of course there is now a reward to anyone who can name the person (confidentially of course ) so thats it for this week. Ill be back with more Gobi antics next monday or so following O'Connors in Blessington this week Always a good crowd , Looking forward to seeing you all there. Hal |
Review of The Ivy, June 7th Review From Fergal |
It was about time I got off my ass and went to see Gobi. Yes even though I look after the site and I have been updating it I have never got the courage to go out in public to see Gobi. The crowd was fairly small they must have known I was going to see Gobi. Well that's what happens in Naas during the world cup and also during the holiday season money is tight and the pubs tend to be quiet especially on a Friday night. I have to say I didn't know how varied the set list for Gobi was, and it is varied let me tell you. From U2, David Gray, to Bob Marley, Thin Lizzy. Even Granny would have enjoyed some part of the night. Willie was energetic to say the least under various disguises (Eddie Grant eat your heart out) The overall sound was crystal clear and not hard on my aging ears. It makes a change to see a band putting in a bit of effort to entertain and that is what Gobi seem to do best. They are not just in the corner playing away making you say to yourself "will they ever turn that down" Gobi are a band to be seen and heard. Fergal |

Review Of O'Connor's Blessington . May 25th Review From Willie |
A great venue with not enough publicity behind it, Musically it is the tightest we have played in a long time, and I wore my new top, Which I think impressed people who like fabrics .I burst my inflatable guitar when things got to hot (literally) .Thanks for a great evening , Silicone city . Review Of O'Connor's, Blessington . May 25th Review From Hal |
O'Connor's rocked for the first time for us , The crowd have got to know us and we were delighted to see some faces regularly at the gig , Thanks to the crowd from Ballyknockin , Some faces I have not seen in a while , My Best to Catherine , Wish her well She could not be there following a recent sickness , Good luck with the wedding MR Super Moto Racer , I think we did our bit well and the crowd responded equally as well , We do love it when people come up for a chat afterwards , we are not stuck up band dicks , we are there for the fun also and the day the fun stops so do we , Thanks Blessington and to Owen the Entertainment’s manager for having us , Look Forward to seeing you all again on July 20th Smell Ya Later Hal If you would like to say hello Now , Visit the message board page and you are almost guaranteed a reply |
Review From Willie |
I'm my own worst critic so, I see problems where there are none , to much time between songs & I hit a wrong chord in Sail Away by David Grey , finding it hard to keep balance while dancing thought the boys played great , Dowling's crowd as usual were second to none . really enjoyed playing my inflatable guitar .Thanks to everyone who came for their regular support , I don’t like being lonely . Regards Willie |
Review From Hal |
Had a great weekend as usual , Having a ball since my time with Gobi began back last October , Blew some of franks fuses Saturday night but the crowd were forgiving , Sunday night in Dowling's I recorder the Gig on mini disc and it seemed quite good , the crowd in Dowling's as usual were lively and fun , It has to be the favourite Gig spot of all the lads , Look forward to seeing everyone next month , Please sign the guest book anyone who visits , we read every message and would like some input . Things you would like to see change with the band , song ideas . Were open to anything and welcome ideas , Were working on some promotion goodies at the moment and we will try to run something on the site soon regarding that , Chat soon , thanks for the support were receiving and thanks to Fergal for his work on the website , the reason it has not been fully finished or updated is because we were starving him of the information, ( sorry Bud ) |
