January 2003
At the moment, there is little on-going growth. Grass and ferns are the only visible new life. The Navelwort is also ever present, sending up its spikes of pale green flowers in July.
10 January: The first primrose has appeared. A bit early, but here it
is:-
12 January: My secret little crop of wild strawberries:-
16th January
Quite a lot happened in the last 4 days. The Lesser Celandines are almost out -
picture tomorrow, I'd say. More primrose pictures, now (aren't macro lenses
great?):-
There was a buzzard circling overhead hunting, today. No picture, though..:(
And here is the first picture of Wood Sorrel - one of the main contenders for
"Shamrock":-
The gorse is in full bloom, now, too:-
The Reedmace is looking good (I know it's last years work,
but it's worth showing):-
The berries of this Tutsan are still fresh looking. They've been
on the plant since October. I guess the birds don't like to eat them.
18th January
If this lichen (the pale bit on
the rock) grows at 1mm per year (as I've read), then it's around 150 years old.
(And so is the wall!)
This little mushroom was well hidden, I only found it when
looking for something else:
A pretty little bracket fungus was growing on the end of a
rotten twig:
22nd January
I promised you a Lesser Celandine the other day. Here it is:
27th January
Here's a close-up of another Lesser Celandine:
Snowdrops will be open tomorrow, so I'll put them in then.
