Original Hedgerow, leg 2.

A little bit faster than usual to press, but I need some confirmation of id's...

Cloudy with late sun.

I'm on the trail of the Bulrush Wainscot moth and I found these new Typha leaves with an eaten track. On exploring the leaf a bit further I found this 12mm larva. It doesn't match the few web images I've found, but it appears to be transparent and could easily be another colour.

Now confirmed as Bulrush Wainscot (July 8th).

This is a Snipe Fly - Rhagio scolopacea, known as the Down-looker for fairly obvious reasons.

Foxgloves will add a fine bit of colour to the hedge for a few months.

Two micromoths. Glyphipterix simpliciella (5mm.) on the left and Ancylis badiana (8mm.) on the right.

My first reaction was 'ichneumon', but there is no waist and the antennae are borderline, so I'm going for 'sawfly' instead. About 15mm. long.

Another shot of one of my favourite hoverflies: Leucozona lucorum. Why not?

My first larva of Orange Tip for this year. It's about 3mm long, and the left-hand shot is to put the beast into perspective. On Lady's Smock, of course.

One of the Soldier Flies - Cantharis rustica.

My tiniest Hoverfly yet - Neoascia podagrica.

( I was down looking for Orange Tip larvae and these minute hoverflies were hovering almost beyond the capability of my eyesight.)

Sweet Vernal Grass in full flower.
