5th October

An area of woodland undisturbed for many years, consisting of a broken down farmstead under ancient Sycamores and with rambling Fuchsias over 7m tall.

Bright periods (this was one of them) with occasional torrential rain.

On the left, Lactarius deterrimus, growing under Spruce planted 50 years ago by the landowner, and on the right a Russula, possibly Russula sanguinea, under the same tree.

A single shaft of light came through the canopy, highlighting this little group of Sulphur Tuft mushrooms and a fallen Fuchsia flower.

There were plenty of these Sulphur Tuft mushrooms in groups on stumps, branches and buried wood debris.

Cow Parsley has made a reappearance. These rich green fronds are rivalling ferns in the hedgerow edges.
