Scoil Mhuire Newsletter     April 2011.

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

We were blessed on Saturday last with fine weather and a lovely Confirmation ceremony with Bishop Brennan. 5th and 6th classes and their teachers Ms Brady and Mr Crowley are to be congratulated for the great effort put into the ceremony and preparation of artwork for the church. The confirmants will receive their Certificates of Completion for the “You shall be my Witnesses” programme this Thursday night at 7pm at the school.

Credit Union Quiz Final

Well done to Martin Kinsella, Ciara Molloy, Jan Becker and Orla Nolan who competed in the U11 National Finals of the Credit Union Quiz at the RDS, Dublin yesterday. While not coming away with prizes they nonetheless did very well and received special certificates to mark their participation. It was a great achievement for the school and is  the second time for us to reach the National Finals.

School Bus transport 2011/12

All families currently availing of free bus transport to school will have received letters from Bus Éireann asking you to apply for next year. The abolition of the “closed school rule” in the last budget means that despite our location as a central school the distance for eligibility for transport is changing to 2 miles instead of 1 . As the 2 mile mark from Scoil Mhuire to the village is at the Post Office in Campile this means that all the estates at the top of the village will not be entitled to bus transport unless they pay €200 per year. Many schools are affected by this change and parents are campaigning against it around the country through their Parent Association. Our PA is willing to take on the cause if parents are sufficiently interested in the issue. The PA has a mobile contact no 089 4424655. Parents can text or leave a voicemail on this number(it is not manned) or you can email scoilmhuirepa@gmail.com . Any updates or news regarding the buses will be put on the PA section of the school website www.scoilmhuirecampile.com

Easter Bunny Raffle

The Parent Association is undertaking a novel “Easter Bunny” raffle as a fundraiser. Lots of prizes for all to be won and at €2 a line it is hoped that all families will support the raffle. The draw will take place on Friday 15th April . Cards should be returned by the14th

Tesco Tokens

For those of you who shop at Tesco we will gratefully accept any school’s tokens. We have received a lot of resources from these tokens over the years.

Easter holidays

We will close for Easter on Friday 15th April  at 12.30. Infants can be collected at 12 and there won’t be an early Infant bus run- all will be accommodated on the main run.We will reopen on Tuesday 3rd May as the late Easter runs into the May Bank holiday weekend.
